Flame » in reply to Andrew Sullivan says Cheney was "road kill."

My take

I've always known Cheney to be a very bright man and accomplished speaker and believe he held his own in most of the discussions. I just wonder if most of the country though, didn't have that same little annoying thought in the back of their minds that I did. Why is our Vice President so much brighter than our President? To me that reinforces that whole puppet idea with this chilling little add on to the formula: George Bush was obviously put into the lead position because of his name recognition and pliability but administration string pullers got blindsided by 9/11 when the little guy got propelled to the forefront and received some true power of his own.

Maybe that's where Cheney's obvious annoyance in the debates came from, that he was being made to answer for the sins of an administration that was no longer solely under his control. In that sense, I think Edwards might have lost an opportunity to point out that question. What a wonderful line he would have had to say midway through the debate: "Mr. Vice President, it's obvious you're a much brighter man than your boss. You come off as well-informed, literate and seasoned and the country found out recently how few of those traits your boss possesses. Tell us why your personal integrity doesn't compell you to admit that you teamed up with an idiot."
