I was a public school teacher during the Clinton years. It was bad back then. I don't blaim it on Clinton, thou.
I am a firm believer that school government belongs to the local government, not Federal.
But the problem isn’t with the government, it is with the parents and administrators.
Too many parents want to blame the teachers for their child’s shortcomings. Too many parents don’t care about their child’s performance. Parent need to get involved with their children. They need to discipline their children. If their child has a problem, like Attention Deficit Disorder, they should teach their kids to try harder and not use it as an excuse to not try at all.
Too many time the parents want the teacher to raise their kids, but they want to tell the teacher how to raise their kids.
The administration sides with the parent and not the teachers. They also refuse to expel dangerous, disrupted students because they loose money for each absence. I actually had a student that vandalized the principal’s car and set fire to the school and they would not expel him. He would get suspended for three days, come back, get in a fight, and get suspended again. The other students saw this and said if he can get away with that, we should be able to get away with stuff- and they did.
