When someone wants to represent a large number of people, he must be able to speak in order to be understood. He must be able to convince people with all kinds of backgrounds. He must be respected, appreciated. He will be listened to if his message can get through.
This is how it works all over the world.
But in the US, it seems there are two things one needs to become a president, : a father who's been one before and has therefore lots of connections , and a devotion for the Allmighty....Brrrr...
