Thanks SDAI, nice to hear some balance. I actually agree with you on a number of the issues.

Probably the one that I disagree most strongly on though is the one about education. My wife is a school teacher in a low income district where the turnover of children is astronomical from year to year and English is not spoken in the homes of many. The unfunded mandates to make these districts hit the same standards as the wealthy districts is impossible for them to meet in spite of some very dynamic teachers and administrators. No Child Left Behind has been a dismal failure for removing the inequality of rich and poor public school districts.

Doubt your thoughts of toughening up our educational accountability would last if you spent a year in a classroom where teachers are being forced to teach to a test now instead of whatever strengths they find in individual students.
