LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Greenhouse gas emissions could cause global temperatures to rise by up to 11 degrees Celsius (20 degrees Fahrenheit), according to first results from the world's largest climate modeling experiment.

The top end of the predictions, which range from 2-11 degrees, is double estimates produced so far and could make the world dramatically different in the future.

"Our experiment shows that increased levels of greenhouse gases could have a much greater impact on climate than previously thought," said David Stainforth, the project's chief scientist, from Oxford University.

Without significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, scientists estimate the Earth's temperature and sea level will rise, leading to increased flooding and drastic climate changes.

The temperature range predicted is based on assumptions of carbon dioxide levels double those found before the Industrial Revolution. Scientists estimate these levels will be reached by the middle of this century if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced.

"This is really just the beginning of the process to try and understand the uncertainty and predictions of climate change," Stainforth added.

There is uncertainty, but the qualitative results are known... the question is only how much of a disaster we are facing... Of course the people that have chosen to see the global warming debate as some sort of POLITICAL debate will parrot the same asinine bullshit... those that can read and UNDERSTAND the science will see it as the serious threat it is... this has NOTHING to do with politics, it has EVERYTHING to do about taking action to preserve our way of life as much as possible...

Global warming is real, yet when mass starvation occurs due to it some will still say its 'just a statistical blip'...

I have posted facts, and I have posted references, yet the political MORONS here seem to dismiss it all as ultra-liberal ravings- like I was advocating a return to some agrarian society- Like most incompetent political hacks they choose to label those who express views they dont like as extreme lunatics... It is simpler than educating themselves.

You can accuse me of many things, but you KNOW that you cannot accuse me of accepting junk science blindly- I HAVE looked at the data and the problem is real... Those that deny the problem have not read the data...

I am desperately hoping we address the problem NOW and MAYBE avoid having to sacrifice our way of life- I am the last person to advocate that we 'return to a simpler way of life'....

To deny that global warming is real takes either extreme ignorance, or extreme blind faith that those concerned about it are 'socialists' intent on lowering our standard of living... The facts are facts, no politics matter... except politics will stop us from doing what needs to be done...

The facts are undeniable... you want to play stupid- go ahead, you are just making the problem worse...
