The "market process" is not self-regulating. The "market process" relies upon effective government regulation in order to succeed without loss of consumer confidence and collapse.
Maybe. But doesn't it bother you at all that it's the government and its representatives that keeps telling you this over and over again? That keeps telling you that businessmen are vicious predators that only they can keep from your throat?
I believe that competition is a valid concept in regulation as it is in any other endeavor. Giving government a unique non-competitive role of regulating industries is a sure-fire recipe for an industry-government relationship that usually ends up being an unhealthy one.
Bureaucrats are not inherently more dishonest than businessmen, and in my experience, they are far more immune to legal consequences.
Incidentally, none of what I have discussed here is meant to imply that there should not be government-imposed legal consequences for force or fraud, or court systems to handle civil and legal recourses. My issue is with the means of discovery.
