I don't really want dish service.
And Charter owns the cable. I used to live in an area that a company named "Falcon" served. No other cable service was available. Are there any areas in the country where residents have a choice of cable company? I've never heard of it, if so. How come?
I would guess that their contract with the city precludes cable competition. If the cities care about their residents at all, they would encourage competition.
If competition can't be encouraged in this way, then maybe cities should own the fiber networks themselves, the way they own the sewers, streets, etc. Cable infrastructure to the home is a strategic commodity.
