Mark,
From spotted owls and marbeled murrelets to salmon and steelhead, I've been involved with the science and policy of protecting threatened and endangered species for the better part of fifteen years. And, frankly, the Clinton administration did far more to take action to protect our natural heritage than the current administration. In fact, the Bush Senior presidency cared more for the environment than the current administration.
Ever since taking office, Bush II has been steadily whittling away at the environmental protections put in place as far back as the Nixon presidency. We will be paying a terrific price as a consequence of these actions. And so long as science is contorted to serve the policy rather than the policy constructed to serve the science, we can expect to see further degradation of our environment.
Its a tragedy.
