When the 2 french journalists were released, some facts came to the surface.
It appears that secret services from country A do not inform the secret services of country B about what , where and when some move will take place (in Iraq at least and even among allies). However, secret services know perfectly well what to find on such and such road. The french journalists spent one more night in Baghdad in order to cross that road from Baghdad to the airport by daylight. And they also knew where to slow down. They went through it safely.
I've heard the matter in this case is to understand where they were supposed to slow down. The Italians say they thought they actually had passed the checkpoint.
