You know damn well what point I was trying to make. Of course it's not a justification. But it does point out rank hypocrisy in many people--especially politicians--claiming the mantle of righteousness.
If I point out that a person who is condemning a car thief for moral failures is himself a bank robber, this in no way implies that car theft is therefore justified. But it does tend to reflect on the bank robber's judgments, especially if he still enthusiastically defends his reasons for the bank robbery.
It is an important piece of information that politics has a higher priority for some people than a truly consistent across-the-board position on morality, the role of the Federal government and the states, or whether or not something is constitutional.
There's been a lot of that going around in the past ten years.
