Predictably some are trying to frame the debate as 'Those bloodthirsty liberals are trying to kill this poor woman'. I am VERY disappointed that Tom Brosz has taken this path over on the flame board.
IF she had a living will stating that she didnt want such measures to be taken to keep her alive, would there be this debate? OF COURSE NOT!
Her husband and at least one other person have testified that she had stated that she didnt want such measures to be taken... the courts have repeatedly agreed. The doctors have stated that she is in a permanent vegitative state. Her cereberal cortex is GONE, replaced by fluid.
Is there a single person here that would want to be kept alive under these conditions? Is it that hard to believe that she wouldnt have wanted this? OF COURSE it does not matter what WE would want in her situation, IF she had a living will stating that she wanted all measures possible taken to keep her alive then I would be arguing that we should DAMN WELL honor her wishes! Feeding tubes, respirators, catheters - everything possible to keep her alive if she had made it clear that that was what she wanted. More than one person has stated, however, that she made it clear that she wouldn't have wanted this. Court after court has agreed. That should have been the end of it. NOW she is being used and exploited by people with clear political agendas- You may think what you want about the courts, but do you really think politicians are the ones that should have a say in this?
This tragedy has been hijacked by people trying to advance their own agenda, this just compounds the tragedy... Meanwhile, a once concious human being is, without doubt, now a functionless unthinking creature that is alive only because of medical intervention. There is NO POSSIBILITY of her miraculously growing a new cereberal cortex. All hope of a dignified death have long since gone.
The lesson in all this is that you should make your wishes clear to EVERYONE in your family, and make a living will... I would bet money that not ONE of the regulars here would request that they be allowed to live like this poor woman.
Despite all the mudslinging and vile allegations, I believe that the husband AND her parents are honestly just doing what they believe is right. They are humans I find it inexcusable that some politicians have slandered the husband with innuendo... As for the parents, my heart goes out to them... they see letting the body that used to house Terry die as losing a child... they cant accept that they lost Terry a long time ago. I cannot fault them for being humans that feel terrible pain and act on it.

- Why will the husband accept no solution other than her death? Maybe because he promised her.
