Eugenics has a really bad history, one that I don't want to see here in the US. It's strange how so many claim to oppose capital punishment for convicted murderers but see no problem with killing helpless people like the severely handicapped.
It's all well and good if someone has expressly left directions about what they'd want if something similar happens to them. My wife and I are researching living wills and enduring powers of attorney, as I suspect many others are doing as a result of this case.
In this particular instance, there is no reason for this woman to die except for the wishes of one person, her so-called husband*. Her parents say they're willing to take over her care, so why are so many people so intent that she should die? According to medical staff who have worked with her, her husband has denied her any form of care other than the bare minimum for years and has expressed frustration that she has lived this long. They also say she is far more responsive than the news reports have led us to believe.
*Sorry, but this guy has been with another woman for about 10 years now. For all intents and purposes, he is her husband in name only.

- Why will the husband accept no solution other than her death? Maybe because he promised her.
