re: The blogosphere--a reality check

"That observation comes, first, from simple logic, based on the number of blogs out there and the statistical probability of finding a like-minded blog. It also comes from noting that Zoners who cite blogs never have any difficulty finding one that agrees with whatever point they want to make. "

Well, like-minded may just mean vaquely rational and/or high signal to noise. For instance, http://www.lileks.com/index.html , the Bleat I find somewhat amusing, but it's doodling as an art form & I usually forget to visit it. Little Green Footballs- http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/weblog.php I generally find number of people linking to, but it's not somewhere I regularly visit [maybe it's mainly because of where it's in my bookmarks- and in the comment section it just goes on and on- with lot's of troll battling and bashing.]

I visit Instapundit fairly often, but it's updated often, and other than the occasional cat blogging, it provides interesting links with little in way of comment- "heh" for instance. Mostly it's excerpts from what is being linked to. But Reynolds has another blog where he writes articles- but I visit usually only if he links to it.
Belmont Club usually has medium size piece on something war related- and the comments section can be as good as the piece.
http://www.chrenkoff.blogspot.com/ is the good news on Iraq war guy.
http://timblair.net/ gives an Aussie prospective- sometimes it's amusing.
http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com/ provides a good prospective from Iraq, the comment section are long and there a fair amount of trolls- but it's generally worth the read. I usually use this page's links to get to other Middle East blogs. Which includes Sand Monkey, Big Pharaoh, SILLY BAHRAINI GIRL, and others.

http://spencepublishing.typepad.com/in_the_red_zone/ In The Red Zone can be interesting but he doesn't update very often.
http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/ isn't happy about American invasion and subsequent democratic govt/current security situation, but again she doesn't update often nor has comment section. But I check the site every once in a while.
http://afreeiraqi.blogspot.com/ is one of three brothers of Iraqi the Model, he has been "somewhat" banished because he had some disagreement with the two other brothers. He doesn't update enough either.
http://www.martinkramer.org/pages/899526/index.htm is interesting, but doesn't update enough. Big Pharaoh mentioned meeting with him and gave the link to his site.

Anyhow, I have hundreds of blogs bookmarked, but only a few dozen are worth visiting every week or less- mainly because most don't have anything new on them, constant updating a blog is a big selling point. But for places like Kos or Huffington Post the amount of updates isn't a strong attraction for me.

Generally for me, there is a shortage of good blogs and I'm always looking for something better. Perhaps my favorite at the moment is SILLY BAHRAINI GIRL, but she has been posting a fair amount lately, though I might evenually grow tired of the bitch:)
