"Blogs? For Zoners?" Sure, why not?

I thought about typing "It ain't so" in the subject line because you asked me to, but that would've confused people. Sorry, but I can't say that.

In a reply to SDAITech1 above I observed that the difference between BBSes and blogs is the social environment...or lack of one, in the case of blogs. I'll bet that's what gives you a queasy feeling, eh? But of course people who choose the BBS environment aren't going to give up the social component for a blog. I think what'll happen, as I add blogs on the "side" of the BBS systems (on personal pages like Album pages on steroids then subjected to heavy mutational radiation), is that people like the archetypical Tom will use them "synoptically", to sum up "here's what's been on my mind lately:" and link frequently to the actual conversations. How many blogs have you seen that were no more than diaries of what the author read on other blogs? I think it'd improve blogging if more bloggers could at least cite their own words.

So I'm going for synergy. Seem reasonable?

I might also add that I've been playing around with ideas for other forms of publishing tools, which might also have synergistic effects. For example, if I equip the server with the ability to create PDFs, then I can hook it up to a search system to locate and "bind" messages into e-books; or an authoring system to do that by hand. It wouldn't have to be limited to the existing database of messages: People might use PDF publishing to create original works. Or collaborative writing on a BBS; you might find that interesting, eh? Or, to tie it up with a bow and return to blogs, a person might want to click a button and turn his/her bloggerel into a nice Christmas gift for family and friends.

I see categories breaking down as I throw things into the mix, so I don't generally worry about one thing supplanting or competing with another. I have plenty of reason to expect something good will arise from the mix, even if I can't say exactly what.
