Use a believable benchmark

SDF asked:

"How do I know I'm getting a faster computer???"

Don't trust the benchmarks that the manufacturers provide. Typically their code is opimized for the specific CPU architecture, e.g. always in-cache. Instead, take your most CPU intensive code and run it on their machine. The machine that runs fastest with your code is the one you want to buy.
