3 GHz does feel like a dog if you don't have enough RAM and are running WinXP.
Windows bloat has been a driving factor in why everybody has to keep upgrading to faster machines. If you are running winxp, you can get much better performance by turning off all the fancy graphics. Its amazing what a difference those graphics make.
Your post sounds like Vista will be more of the same. Bloating Icons? No thanks, hopefully Microsoft will allow me to turn such crap off in Vista like they do in XP.
-Steve G. (not planning on upgrading to Vista until I'm forced to, which better mean a machine faster than 4 ghz min. is available to buy)
PS, noticed in my Dell catalog last night that processor speed has been relegated to the fine print. Hmmm..
