Fan spring?

My cpu has a standard heat sink (metal fins) with a fan blowing on it. Works fine. The only modification I made was to put a couple pieces of foam between the fan and the heatsink, 'cause it rattled like a diesel engine. I don't understand why your cooling fan didn't work. I mean, if it burned instantly, what kind of cooling system would work? Why would such a chip even be made? It doesn't even work - it self-destructs!
