...is that all of my examples, while not fitting RL's #2 definition, and while containing no Eby disclaimers, are considered by pretty much everyone who counts: as documentaries.
Keep in mind that "documentary" is a word that is defined largely by its usage by the film industry. Films that compete for best documentary awards are, by definition, documentaries. Films made by people who think they are making documentaries are (usually) documentaries. All sorts of them contain fictional elements or express political viewpoints with which you disagree (I spent all of 5 minutes searching to come up with the three examples I provided).
