Very few people take Michael Moore literally, any more than take Rush Limbaugh literally. Both serve a purpose for their respective camps by acting as propagandists. I see no more need to apologize for that than you do to apologize for RightWing propagandists. This is politics, not science.
And it's very clear that what's eating the Right is that Moore is proving to be such an effective propagandist. Whoever is most hated by the Right is obviously the one they fear the most. Moore mobilizes people to vote for the Left, just as do Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, O'Reilly, et al and al and al do for the Right.
I'll do the pro forma distancing act, with my own twist: Yeah, I don't think Moore's literally correct, and acknowledge that his rhetoric is sometimes vicious. But I approve very much of the results he produces.
