I agree that science should investigate the origins of life and present the findings honestly, be what they may. For example, I keep wondering deep down if our Universe was the creation of some seriously adbvanced civilization from another universe - maybe one of their grad students playing with the equipment late at night, or doing his thesis. Or both.
What I object to is the underlying pro-IDer attempt to circumvent science and use this important question about the origins of our existence of ideological and social control purposes. Such actions, which are obviously Judeo-Christian in nature, are also an affront to the beliefs of other groups with their own creation stories. They also undermine the benevolent and inclusive original nature of Christianity. But this seems to be what happens when a small group with good intentions expands into a larger one over time. Typical human nature.
