>>it makes NO reference to a 'solid surface'
No, but it does make reference to a "stratified layer" that has two sides that change in different directions. Care to explain that? The same author of that paper also talks about how plasma stops flowing at this layer, certainly acting like a solid "stratified layer".

>>I'm also sure you're aware that the 'surface of the sun' always refers to the PHOTOSPHERE from which the visible light is emitted. The photosphere is a layer of low pressure gas some several hundred km thick.
I'm well aware that the photosphere is "mistakenly" refered to as the surface, but is not more the surface of the sun than the surface of the ocean is the surface of the earth. The difference here is that the photosphere's plasma is very bright and we have not been able to see what is underneath this layer. Only in the last decade have we had such technology at our disposal.
>>I also looked at your avi movie link and saw the angular structure to which you refer. Fascinating yes .. but to deduce a solid iron surface (or whatever) from that, is en par with the 'Face on Mars' mentality IMO.
If I was basing my beliefs on one or two images, I would appreciate your concern. As it is, I've reviewed many gigabytes of images and have assembled all sorts of images and documentation to support my interpretations.
I'll tell you what: Just take that first running difference image from Lockheed Martin and explain it THUROUGHLY (in detail) using gas model theory. It's only the first image on my website, but I think you'll find it doesn't lend itself real well to explanation using gas model theory. What is all that structure we see over a period of hours? What are the ridges we see? What is the light source? What is the peeling affect on the right? I think when you start trying to answer such questions using gas model theory, it's not as easy as it seems.
