re: Professional military

Tom, the hell with your statistics. Every time I look at one of your sources, it has some right wing think tank behind it. I've lived in major military towns all my life and saw the military ranks firsthand. I'm speaking from my own observations here not some governmental study done by the very people that have much to gain by exaggerating the outcome.

There are highly competent people within our military ranks. I will never dispute that but to paint this picture that they make up some significant majority of our soldiers is a flat out lie. The intelligent and competent ones find ways of avoiding the risks of warfare. They end up in the support roles far from the front lines or they keep a sizeable component of grunts between them and the real dangers. The guys with their asses on the line, the truck drivers, the folks that go out on the point rooting out insurgents, the military police, etc. aren't exactly your military rocket scientists. They're the ones that are more likely the disenfranchised in life, the ones that choose the military because they're frankly pretty incompetent in dealing with the outside world or they're simply young and naive with a very warped sense of playing cowboys and Indians. Tom, you can't bs me about this. I've seen it and interacted with these people firsthand all my life and no government statistics or propaganda from either political party can convince me otherwise.

Do you ever get away from your computer and actually interact with the world and other human beings? Maybe you should try. I think you'd get a bit more insight into how it all works.
