"Kids do best with two parents".
This is an old fashioned idea. Half of all marriages end in divorce, so most kids grow up from "broken" homes. To some degree, if the kids are adaptable, having second homes and a second set of "parents" actually gives them an advantage on life. They learn to be "fair and balanced"....that is IF their respective sets of parents are fair and balanced.
That's a pretty damn big IF. Seriously, how many kids do you know that have 2 sets of fair and balanced parents?
Kids need consistency and a safe harbor to call home. Jumping from household to household only causes them to feel lost. Its hardly an advantage. Throw in half-siblings that spend all their time at one of the households and you have a recipe for a lot of pain and resentment.
Except in cases of abuse divorce is never good for kids. Regardless of how divorcees like to spin it, the kids suffer. Sometimes its necessary, but if the parents would get past the rose-colored spin, they could help their child a lot by recognizing the kids are bearing the brunt of the consequences and none of the cause. Rose colored spin only causes the kids more pain.
Better to face reality head-on with the knowledge that kids are recieving the fallout from society's radiation cloud of "no-fault" divorce.
