Much of the uncertainty in those references--and I didn't read every one of the dozens of links and sublinks either (this wasn't the only chapter in the paper)--had to do with trying to prove that the rate of the current sea level rise was an aberration of current times, not part of some normal occurrence. Some evidence implied it was. Other evidence wasn't so clear.
The problem of measuring a millimeter or two of average ocean level at a given point is daunting to start with. The author describes the problems with factoring out geological movement, water expansion, and other things.
Even if the oceans are rising by 2mm a year, how long to get to this dreaded "20 foot rise" I keep hearing about?
