re: More goalposts
J---Would you agree that the Earth's atmosphere protects us from the full spectrum of the sun's energy?
a--Of course not. The atmosphere is transparent to many frequencies. Point?
You seem to agree with me that the atmosphere blocks only some of the frequencies, which then means that all the frequencies do not reach the surface.
The point is that, if the atmospheric density was to decrease, then there would be more of the unwanted frequencies reaching the surface. More UV rays, for instance, would cause more skin cancers and eye cataracts, plus this extra energy could be absorbed by the ground and water, causing their molecules to gain kinetic energy.
(How high is the kinetic energy of the molecules in the thermosphere?)
J--Would you agree that if there was no atmosphere surrounding the Earth, that the temperature condition here would be similar to that which we find on the moon? (cold in the shadows, hot in the sunshine)
a--Errr, that is more than one question with more than one answer. Earth would be a good deal different from the moon and for a number of reasons. Yes it would be "cold in the shadows, hot in the sunshine" even more so than it is now with atmosphere. Point?
The point is that; since we know how the atmosphere moderates the energy from the sunshine, it becomes possible to indirectly monitor the density of the atmosphere.
By monitoring the difference between the sunshine and shadow temperature in various places around the world, it would be possible to determine weather the global atmospheric density is increasing, decreasing or remaining the same.
Since the sunshine travels through the total thickness of the atmosphere, the temperature difference measures the total density of that thickness.
The greater the temperature difference, the less dense the atmosphere.
Mercury barometers could be used to correct for the local pressure reading.

a--Now back to our story: you said there was some scientific blunder and/or conspiracy:
Has the ocean water levels increased even slightly so far? If not, then there may be another reason why the polar ice is disappearing.
I showed you that, indeed, sealevel is rising. And more than "slightly". So why all the questions? Why not just say "ahh, yes. I did not know that." and move on?
Hmmm. Blunder and/or conspiracy? No I do not think that it is a "conspiracy" unless some scientists have allready studied the situation and the information is deliberately being suppressed. Blunder; only if scientists are ignoring or not gathering information that may be vital to the survival of our species on this planet.
Could you point out the specific passage where the sea rise information is definitively shown, I must have missed that when I read the paper.
