re: Goalposts

Would you agree that the Earth's atmosphere protects us from the full spectrum of the sun's energy?

Of course not. The atmosphere is transparent to many frequencies. Point?

Would you agree that if there was no atmosphere surrounding the Earth, that the temperature condition here would be similar to that which we find on the moon? (cold in the shadows, hot in the sunshine)

Errr, that is more than one question with more than one answer. Earth would be a good deal different from the moon and for a number of reasons. Yes it would be "cold in the shadows, hot in the sunshine" even more so than it is now with atmosphere. Point?

Would you also agree that; the closer the Earth's atmospheric pressure would come to that of the moon, the closer the moon like conditions would exhibit themselves here on Earth? (Lower air pressure would cause the air to be cooler and the ground and ocean water to become warmer.)

a) I think you are focusing on pressure and ignoring mass. Atmosphere 1) insulates, and 2) transports by convection and mixing, heat.

b) Earth and ocean would be quite cold in the main. The few inches exposed to the sun would warm up at times but would also be quite cold for most of the time.

Now back to our story: you said there was some scientific blunder and/or conspiracy:

Has the ocean water levels increased even slightly so far?
If not, then there may be another reason why the polar ice is disappearing.

I showed you that, indeed, sealevel is rising. And more than "slightly". So why all the questions? Why not just say "ahh, yes. I did not know that." and move on?
