The easiest way to separate the real environmentalists from the watermelons is to bring up nuclear power.
The leftist environmentalists are happy with any solution that cripples the automotive industry, lifts up mass transit, taxes pretty much any level of consumption, and puts the government in charge of the whole thing.
Solutions that might allow us to continue our lifestyles without wrecking the environment are not what they want to hear. Learned this for the first time back when cold fusion was still a hot subject.
