Good point

Alot of women also marry because they don't want to work. Perhaps the tax breaks should only be given to an adult (including single parents) with a dependent under the age of 16, but not to those who are merely married with a spouse.

Gay marriage then might be acceptable to me because it wouldn't be necessary for the government to acknowledge them with a special tax status. It also wouldn't be necessary for gays to define their role in society. They would be on equal footing with heterosexual couples, except for the obvious fact that they are non-reproducing members of society.

If government implemented such a policy in the next 1000 years I'd be surprised. Although, the conservative federal government in Canada has indicated they might hold a referendum on gay marriage.
