re: Paranoia

The problem is that the information can be used at a point in the future to manipulate, intimidate or entrap you. if you become "inconvenient", they have the goods on you.

Leaving aside what possible "goods" are included in the various phone numbers I call (relatives? Pizza joint? My boss?)...

What piece of information obtained by either government or the private sector is that NOT true of? Tax forms, credit records, ATM locations, groceries I buy with coupon cards, places I use my card to buy gas. All transmit information on me into databases. All could be theoretically misused somehow, in ways ranging from relatively benign to downright nasty. We KNOW that some politicians have used tax audits as a weapon. So far, I don't know of any innocent person who has been attacked using their phone records.

Lindy, either you're going to live in what Sagan called a "demon-haunted world," or you're not.

Hell, we both post here under our real names, and have left trails forty feet wide. If I got paranoid enough, I'd never leave a fetal position.

I'm assuming that these records are being used for exactly what they say: to create patterns to help track terrorists. We didn't connect the dots before. Hopefully, we're connecting them now.

I keep hearing how we can't live in constant and endless fear from terror attack. Shouldn't this be true of other things as well?
