Brace for hysteria; manufacture it if it's a no-show

Ya know, as I read that blog I got more and more amused. Not quite a milk-through-the-nose moment, but I finally caught on that the piece read like it had been written ahead of time and then random transcripts of the subsequent stories were inserted at designated points. Only the stories weren't exactly like whoever had scripted this rebuttal had assumed. Several times it was "and see how the reporter deliberately blurred the line between eavesdropping and record collection" followed by a snippet in which the reporter not only keeps them straight but clarifies the difference:

In her story, reporter Jessica Yellin blurred the collection of phone numbers with actual eavesdropping: “The story in today's USA Today reveals another secret piece of the President's domestic spying program. It says that in addition to those warrantless wiretaps that have stirred so much controversy, according to the paper the government has also been collecting information on every phone call placed in the United States. It's an issue that could stir yet more trouble for the White House.

This time not wiretapping some calls but collecting the phone records of Americans and documenting every call we make.

(Emphasis added)

That's only blurred if you deliberately squint and cross your eyes.

Nice try, guys, but you oughta be realizing by now that those tricks are rapidly losing their power to cloud minds.
