Good thing RL isn't around right now to correct the spelling of the last word (or couple of words) of your post...;-)
But seriously, Lindy, I have to doubt the literal accuracy of the boiling-the-frog (or out west, boiling-the-lobster) parable, just because a lot of people are coming to the same consensus about the fix we're in. While we're warning each other not to be lobsters, we're not being frogs. Or lobsters. Or whoever that parable's supposed to be about. You know what I mean--lots of people are making it clear they've wised up.
You can tell the Conservatives are already sick of hearing about it, and in a way I kind of sympathize. Bush is political toast, exposed to the judgment of history, and as Tom enjoys pointing out, "boy, his chances of a third term are really trashed now". On one level it really is beating a dead horse. But constantly pointing out the failures and the problem serves notice that we're watching and we're skeptical. That's exactly how the system's supposed to work. Bush has over two more years in office, theoretically, and we can't afford to let up the pressure. He's lost the country's trust. This is one of those times we have to keep a close eye on things ourselves because our elected (and unelected) leaders have proven that they can't be trusted.
America's a fulltime democracy, not a democracy one day every two years. In between elections, this is how the people discipline bad leaders. Despite the best efforts of the Republican Party, the people are still in charge.
