If you think so little of the HabitableZone and its people, you can simply stay away. You don't need to drop by and sow dissaffection, and urge people to leave the Zone. I consider that an attack on the HabitableZone, and I won't put up with it.

You've contributed a lot in the past, and I'd prefer that you participate. But if you don't want to participate that's your privilege. It is not your privilege to try to drive people away.

Note that I'm using my dreaded FullName. This is the official word: Participate or stay away.

Relaxing from the official posture a bit, knowing both you and Brosz, I stand by what I said about your relative perceptions canceling out and converging on an average. Tom believes himself to possess superior rationality too, but both of you can lose your minds and go nonlinear. Which is only normal when the topic is politics.

DL, you have a stereotyped view of Tom. He deserves a lot of credit/blame for that because he's a good avatar of a Rightist; but you're letting the preponderance of similarity to a crazed Rightist blind you to Tom's lucid moments.

My own experience is as the other avatar in the game of political avatars. We adopt stereotypical positions, write flowery rhetoric, and generally try to beat each other into hamburger. But often an interesting thing happens when we're exhausted and bloody: Like two weary gladiators, we shed the berserker rage and have a quiet talk, professional fighter to professional fighter. We sometimes discover common ground, and I think that that, right now, is a precious thing. I think that rediscovering the middle and rediscovering compromise is the only thing that will save America.

You have to persevere through the partisan bullshit to get to the other side. There is no path around it nor a wormhole to skip it. If you can't deal with Tom Brosz, you should reconsider participating in politics. This is it. This is the real world--if you can't stand the heat, etc.
