Flame » in reply to Robert responds

Was it something I said?

Lunchtime break...

Yes I guess I sent my letter(s) to the wrong Robert. I request he forward them to where I intended. One was my formal request for admission to the group and my biodata for the home page. The other was my farewells (now to be ignored, I'm baaaaack!).

DL did not convince me to withdraw, I came on that idea on my own. So there's no need to blame him.

As for Tom's bad manners, it's partly my fault, as Lindy points out, this is the Flame Zone, and I was not aware of the protocols. I am now. He still owes me an apology, though. It might even help his credibility with the group. Insunuendos that people who aren't even talking to you are a liar is not likely to persuade anybody to modify their opinions. On the contrary, it just alerts everyone to your methods.

As far as the spit-on-a-vet issue is concerned, my guess is that there is probably a germ of truth in it somewhere: some time in the past some hapless GI may have been dissed in an airport or bus station by some over-zealous asshole. Perhaps it even happened more than once. But the low-life Limbaugh wannabees of this world would find this tailor-made for their purposes, and it went from an aberration to "yeah...it happened to my cousin in 'Frisco". Its the sort of thing that if it didn't happen it had to be invented. Don't take my word for it, you can find out for yourselves; ask everyone you know and trust WHO ACTUALLY SERVED in the Vietnam era armed forces and find out if it actually happened to them. We'll never know the actual frequency of this alleged event, but well be able to set, as they say in the sciences, some constraints.

At any rate, I consider the whole matter closed, and I am looking forward to my first post this evening.
