"-The day that George W. Bush is ever declared a liberal by people who know what it means is the day I convert to Islam."
Bush isn't a liberal, this foriegn policy in regard to Afghanistan and Iraq is liberal. And interfering in internal policy of Sudan is liberal. Massive aid to stop Aids and other diseases in Africa is liberal.
The reason all this it is done is related to National Security and that aspect of it could be said to be conservative. But many conservatives do not see this as directly related to National Security- and don't like idea of America being the global policeman- particularly since the Cold war has ended. They think less action in these areas would be sufficent and govt has no right taking billions of American tax dollars to improve the conditions in other countries. In addition it has to do with priorities, what more important to America- the Middle East or countries nearer to America- isn't Mexico more important to America than Saudi Arabia?
Globally, Saudia Arabia and Middle East is very important- it's important for Europe, it's vital for India and South East Asia.
And wasn't one of reasons why Bush was supported was because it was hoped he could do something about Mexico?
And what about this hopeless institution called the UN?
Couldn't we stop giving Israel and Egypt 6 billion per year- or how long are we going to continue this welfare program?
The increase in miltary spending has meant that compromises had to be made in domestic spending- domestic spending has sky rocketed. Etc.
