"...On June 12, 1898 Aguinaldo declared the independence of the Philippines in Kawit, Cavite. Simultaneously, a German squadron under Admiral Diedrichs arrived in Manila and declared that if the United States did not seize the Philippines as a colonial possession, Germany would.
...
Although there was substantial domestic opposition, especially by the American Anti-Imperialist League, the McKinley administration decided neither to return the Philippines to Spain, nor to allow Germany to annex the Philippines. Therefore, in addition to Guam and Puerto Rico, Spain was forced in the negotiations to hand over the Philippines to the U.S. in exchange for US$20,000,000.00"

So, ahh, Philippines was part of Spanish possessions. And Mckinley was dead by 1901 Sept 6. Not sure where you see parallels- other maybe you wish someone would die.
So, I was wondering if you had the link to this:
"In 1900 William McKinley was running for reelection. McKinley had successfully prosecuted the Spanish-American War, which was won in just four months and was dubbed a "splendid little war." But, perhaps emboldened by the support he received from the first little war, McKinley decided launch a second war--this one to "liberate" the Philippines...."
So I can get further understanding about what the fuck they are talking about- thanks
