I have commented at great length on the CO2 issue. I don't accept the basic premise they're trying to sell us, particularly the catastrophic spin on it.
My assessment of this is that the panic is unwarranted. I won't bother to go over all the arguments again. I've tried. Nobody wants to hear it.
I've gone over the motivations of those pushing this, and showed the straight line of those motivations back thirty years. Nobody wants to hear that either. Remember, the people who are telling you now that CO2 is destroying the world are the same ones who wrecked the nuclear power industry years ago. Think about that for a while.
So now we have raised this to the level of a Crisis, and when there's a Crisis, nine times out of ten the government goes at it with all the finesse of a man trying to fix a circuit board with a sledgehammer. Taxing the hell out of everything that burns fuel will flatten our economy like a pancake. Our only hope is that there's enough resistance in Congress or the Oval Office to keep them from doing something that stupid. Russia cleaned up its CO2 with an industrial collapse. I'd rather not go that direction.
Sorry if I'm not being nuanced enough. Where am I supposed to meet the Panic Brigade halfway? By saying maybe the oceans will only rise ten feet instead of twenty? The science on this has been heavily compromised by politics, and plenty of scientists are saying so.
I've considered plenty of alternatives. We should be building nuclear plants like there's no tomorrow. We going to let FRANCE show us up? Alternative energy should be encouraged. Gently. Every watt from those sources is a watt that doesn't have to come from a power plant. But we need to realize that we aren't going to run America just on solar cells and windmills, either. I will listen to any environmentalist who is reasonable about these issues, and there are quite a few.
If history proves me right, maybe my judgment isn't clouded. Ever think of that?
