American/Irish support of IRA, is a different animal. The island of Ireland was indeed invaded. But, that's history.
I meant similar in terms of how to get a solution to a problem {IRA was a terrorist outfit- though a generally "kinder" terrorist outfit than then suicide bombing type. I mean kinder in the sense that there was no intention of killing mass amount of innocent people- they issued warning of a bomb attacks. But still they were using the tactic of terror- and I personally don't think it was effective in term of achieving their ends- though I doubt, it gave them news coverage.
