re: Speaking of chainsaws... the Kurds live in countries that were divided.

"Isn't openly declared". True, but it doesn't mean that it never existed, isn't there."

Nope. It is there, as much as say Canada is there. It's more of a nation than Iraq is- meaning everyone there knows it a nation. It conducts foreign policy and has relationship with other nations [has embassies], if not for it's most friendliness ally [the US] it probably would be formal nation- seat in UN, etc. But they wouldn't got there without the US- bit of a Catch-22.
Now, the entire territorial claim is not recognized- formally or informally [by no nation as far as I know- and it would be a disaster and most people other than Kurds know this {probably most Kurds would also acknowledge this}].

If we were to leave Iraq and Iraq is too much trouble for the Kurds, it's pretty certain the Kurds will demand to be formally recognized as independent nation and the US will be forced to accept this because it's would be a fairly rational demand. E.g. How can you argue that the Kurds try something that US itself [the world's superpower] would have refused to do?
Now, it's in the Kurds self interest to be part of Iraq- I don't think we should back ideas of ethnically divide nations- but in terms of military short term solutions, it does make it easier- and probably most Arabs in in northern Iraq would also favor the idea.
