For someone who doesn't like definitions you keep pulling me away from the broad concept of "powerful central authority" and trying to shoehorn me into "socialism." To the best of my knowledge, I haven't even used the word in this thread until now. Centralized control of a nation is centralized control. Excuses for claiming that control are legion in history, and whether the leaders are waving Hitler's book, Marx's, "social justice," or the divine right of kings, makes no real difference in the abstract principle.
A few random points:
- Despotism is about a lot more than labor camps.
- Your description of Nazism and Communism is a pervasive myth, but it's wrong. Nazism was not "capitalist fascism." Capitalism is an economic and political concept based on free markets, not a word meaning "has large businesses." No matter how badly you need an example, corporate tyrannies only exist in science fiction movies.
- Why is government monopoly in a field so appealing, and corporate monopoly so terrifying? Before you use the word "accountable," think first about how much of our Federal government is actually "accountable." And which one gets to use force.
- What we have in the West works despite the ever-tightening collar of the government, not because of it. The balance point of freedom and state control was probably reached in this country a long time ago, and yet we are told we have to keep going further. No liberal ever says "far enough." Vote Bernie.
- The Scandinavian nations being touted as examples by U.S. liberals are quietly backing away from the "cradle-to-grave" model. Look it up. At some point you run out of other people's money.
