Socrates II dismisses ufo eyewitness accounts and has made terrible fun of the subject over the years. I have had to take his sarcasm, contempt and attempts to dismiss most of my comments. And he's involved with SETI. So, I happen across what a nuclear scientist thinks about SETI "cultists". It is no better or no worse than what's already been said over here.
>"The point I'm trying to make is, you dismiss "authority" figures here all the time....since when have you ever bowed to "expertise?" For instance, when an American officer in Iraq says things there are going well, do you buy it?"
No, because that's just ONE opinion. His conclusions aren't obvious, or even in the majority.
>"If some of us choose to dismiss Friedman's conclusions, how is that different?"
It isn't any different. One good comment deseves another. One good theory deserves another. Tom's no expert. SETI's no expert, either. Friedman is. End of story.
