Thanks for the extra tips. I'll add the turkey baster to my list already.
I learned enough today to make me feel confident on where to start.
Think I might join the local mineral society. Meet other rock hounds.
I did this many years ago when I lived in Florida.
I hear they go on digs around here, so would know where all the places are to safely dig.
Sunshine and sandwiches and new company. What's not to like about the great outdoors?

Also want to contact Jamie Hill and see if he allows people on his mine.
I want some Hiddenite.
