I've been both shocked, and surprised at meeting some folk IRL that I'd traded words with online. In some cases, for years before metting them.
A few I had a mind's view that was close, Fox for one, you for another.
Others....... a total surprise. One, I found out when we met, had been a Model, and she was one of the most passionate Space geeks you'd ever hope to meet. She is also an exceptionally good writer. I had her pegged as the typical sort you often find in a group of hard-core sciene types. This after at least two years of back and forth on Sicence subjects. I was so wrong, hoo-boy was I wrong!
A good part of it is the fact we strip all the unspoken language away in places like this. Without the input to our primitive primate side we concentrate more on the logical aspects of communication.
Some find it easier to be more, let's be kind and say .. outpsoken, than they would be face to face.
