His wife chose the church...He didn't agree with the preacher's views, but he reluctantly agreed to joining this particular church as early on in their marrage they agreed that his wife was to be the overriding factor in a choice of worship services to attend. Over the years they discussed the views that some in the congregation held...They disagreed with them, but chose to work for change from within. The church community needed the Obama's input and help in reaching a higher level of spirituality. Etc...
Note they need to make it about the CHURCH and not about the PREACHER...It will be harder for Obama's opponents to attack a church than a specific minister. Especially when the church members are hard-working African Americans (with the emphasis on Americans)
The difficulty: Key members of the church have to come forward and play along with the Political Deflection for it to have full impact and pretend to be pro-America...They might not be up to the calling.
