What would you tell the people who have had marijuana destroy their lives?

Your perception is that it was a benign weed for you. That really doesn't extrapolate to the general population.

I can trot out 100 folks right now who believe marijuana destroyed their lives up until they quit using and started recovery. The coorelation is 1 - 1: quit using, more energy, brain worked better, family and friend relationships improved. Short-term memory restored, concentration improved.

Would you tell them it wasn't the marijuana, it was something else?

Would you suggest that they continue with their benign weed rather then endure the rigors of recovery?

I don't think you would.

I have a very good friend, a guy who got his MS from Harvard and a PhD from Stanford at a very young age, smoked a lot of weed along the way. Sort of like you. Never got into trouble on weed, except in his later years he became too lethargic. Alcohol, on the other hand, enabled him to do a lot of foolish things. He eventually quit both.

It would take too long to show why some people can use marijuana with some impunity whereas others can't. But you can rest assured it is an extremely debilitating drug over time for heavy users.

The definition of addiction: If a mood- or mind-altering drug is having adverse effects on any significant area of a person's life (job, school, relationships, legal, health, financial) and they keep using they are addicted.

Conversely, if there are no adverse effects, there is no addiction.
