Some of the Democrats deserved to get their butts kicked at the time you mention. They were certainly corrupt and overreaching but let's look at the relative damage that occurred during their last major reign and compare it with the Republican period. It's not even close.
No Tom, on second thought let's not.
A good decision, since if you looked at the actual numbers and situations, your premise falls a bit flat. By "last major reign" I assume you mean a time when Democrats ran Congress and the Presidency both? Or are we only counting Presidents? Maybe we should only count lawmakers in Congress? Were the 90s about Clinton, or Gingrich? Were the 80s about Reagan, or Tip O'Neil?
Has there ever been an unemployment rate higher than 6.7 percent? When? How many people have payroll jobs now in the U.S. compared to five years ago? Ten years? Twenty years?
What's the inflation rate now compared to 1980? Interest rates? What's the Misery Index look like compared to the past 30 years?
The DOW is still over 8,000. Nothing like it was a while ago, but nowhere as low as it's been through most of our history.
We had a housing price crash, i.e. the prices began to fall to somewhere near where they should have been all along, but you'd have a hard time tacking that event onto "neocon" ideas, even assuming you knew what a "neocon" was any more than you know what a "fascist" actually is, or a real Depression.
As for the rest of the world, I assume you stopped reading about Iraq the same time Bowser did, two years ago.
All the other crap I keep hearing, about the death of the Constitution, losses of our rights, and all the other high-pitched hyperbole, never took place anywhere other than between liberal ears. Okay, I'll grant you the stuff we have to go through at airports sucks.
You are used to venues where arguments are won by whoever can summon the most high indignation and outrage--the person standing on the largest soapbox. That doesn't work here.
BTW, I hope you are ready to lean on Obama, because from what I see, he's going to be doing almost the same things over the next few years Bush would have done.
