When Obama talks about nuclear power, he always says he will support building new nuclear plants when it is safe enough. I think it is safe enough now. There are some who will never think it is safe enough, and I hope he doesn’t align himself with them.
As for spent fuel rods, I have seen promising advances in the recycling of spent fuel rods so that they can be used again. That is the way to go. They should not be discarded, as they have plenty of useable uranium left in them.
We'll see where Obama goes with it.
