Megan McCardle makes a good point:

How about we make all these great cost-savings changes in Medicare first to see if they work before we put everybody in the country in the program?

Considering Medicare's current financial situation, putting us all under a similar program is kind of like hiring the Department of Defense to manufacture all our toilet seats.
