Do you know something about what's out there in the Milky Way galaxy
and are trying to protect us, or are really just an agent of the Galactic
Hegemony sent to infiltrate emerging species that might one day have
the potential to compete with said empire and attempt to sow discord
and doubt as a prelude to conquest?
By the way, my money is still on the Orion nuclear pulse concept. The
bombs could also serve as defensive weapons if the need arises.
I would like the sail concept even more if it didn't require a really
powerful laser to push the ship, which sadly I do not see happening
any time soon. At least we already have lots of nukes (well, less than
the 55,000 worldwide two decades ago) and the Orion concept has
been successfully tested in ground flights. I think you overestimate
how jarring the explosions would be as the plans have already
compensated for this.

Why don't you want humans to have interstellar travel, mip?

- Maybe the answer is to use fewer resources...
- Interstellar travel is impossible, not just uneconomical
- False - Fusion sufficient
- Engineering Aliens - Think of Ayn Rand and Robert Heinlein
- FAST interstellar travel has a lot of hurdles for us at present
- We put our human limitations on any possible aliens.
- Not trying to

- But what if that one species showed up a long time ago and left?
