"Do you know something about what's out there in the Milky Way galaxy and are trying to protect us, or are really just an agent of the Galactic Hegemony sent to infiltrate emerging species that might one day have the potential to compete with said empire and attempt to sow discord and doubt as a prelude to conquest?"
Heh.
But we should not be making starships at this point in time.
I don't even think we should making huge solar arrays to provide the electrical needs of this planet at this point in time.
Though I do think we should trying to get to the point where we are able to to have solar panels [or some way of collecting solar energy] in space so we can use this energy on earth within 50 years.
I think at the moment what is most needed is cheaper access to space.
And I see only one viable path to cheaper access to Space- creating markets in [or at least involving] the space environment.
Or in other words using to our advantage the characteristics of the space environment.
At the moment we doing this by using space as high ground [satellites to observe the earth surface and/or relay communication across the planet].
One of the most significant resources of Space is it's vacuum- we could not use space as high ground in the manner we do, if space was not a vacuum.
And we are currently using the lower air density of the stratosphere to be able fly airplanes faster and use less fuel. Suborbital travel would a quantum leap is the same direction- using near vacuum and having much higher speeds.
So smart or true agents of the Galactic Hegemony would against air travel or suborbital tourism which is a precursor to suborbital travel, and not be against futuristic ideas of starships.

- Maybe the answer is to use fewer resources...
- Interstellar travel is impossible, not just uneconomical
- False - Fusion sufficient
- Engineering Aliens - Think of Ayn Rand and Robert Heinlein
- FAST interstellar travel has a lot of hurdles for us at present
- We put our human limitations on any possible aliens.
- Not trying to

- But what if that one species showed up a long time ago and left?
- Like I said, interstellar travel is impossible
