All the argument aside.
I began switching over to CFL's a while back. The reason? It shaved my electric bill down. By my calculations over two years, an average of 12 bucks a month. No, I am not overly fond of the light color, nor the annoying delay after initial switch-on. But, where I really, really want the whiter light, I use the special CFL lamps that have a bluer light, mixing them with the more standard CFL's. The only place I haven't changed over is outside lighting. CFL's hate cold, it can take one half an hour to reach full brilliance when it's below freezing.
Also shoved the 'stat up four degrees in the summer, installed switched power strips on everything I could.
I didn't need some self-rightous Beauruacrat telling me to change. Economics did it.
